Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Massage Therapy?

Massage therapy utilizes a "structured touch" characterized by the use of various strokes such as gliding, rubbing, kneading or compressing of various muscles, tendons or ligaments to achieve desired results.

Considered both an art and a science, massage is utilized for simple relaxation as well as for therapeutic treatment for:

  • Stress Reduction
  • Existing Injuries
  • Posture
  • Fluid Retention
  • Muscle Tension & Soreness
  • Prevention of New Injuries
  • Pain or Restriction in Joints
  • Effects of Forced Inactivity

What Does LMT Mean?

After a therapist's name you should look for LMT, which means Licensed Massage Therapist. This means you can be sure you are in the care of a qualified professional. Wisconsin maintains very high standards for Licensed Massage Therapists, including over 1,000 hours of training from a certified massage school.

Energy Center Fitness Club's massage therapists are licensed in Wisconsin and receive continuing education in anatomy, phsiology, bodywork techniques and CPR. Energy Center Fitness Club massage therapists are trained in various forms and types of massage to meet your needs.

How Do I Sign Up For a Massage?

Members and non-members can purchase massage certificates at the Front Desk of the club - either for yourself or as a gift for someone. Appointments can be either in person at the Front Desk or by calling Energy Center Fitness Club. We recommend booking your appointment at least 24 hours in advance to ensure the appointment time that best fits your schedule. Remeber to give the massage certificate to the massage therapist when you arrive for your appointment.

What Can I Expect At My Appointment?

Please arrive ten minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to allow for consultaion with your therapists. At you first appointmnet, you will be asked to fill out a general health questionnaire. This allows the therapist to review your therapy goals and determine the best massage approach.

Your therapist will leave the room prior to the start of the massage to allow you to disrobe, if desired, and get comfortable on the massage table.

You are welcome to remain fully or partially clothed during your massage or you may disrobe completely - you will be draped with sheets and private body parts will ALWAYS be completely covered. For most forms of massage, soothing oils or skin creams are used to enhance the therapy and therefore work best on exposed skin.

What Should I Do During A Massage?

Relax and let the therapist do the work. Give the therapist feedback if you are uncomfortable with anything during the sessions (too cold, too warm, would prefer more or less pressure, etc).

How Long Does A Massage Last?

A massage can be from thirty minutes to three hours. Generally, one hour is most popular.

What Can I Expect Afterwards?

Some people feel very relaxed after a massage session, while others feel energized. If deeper tissue work was performed, you may experience soreness for a day or two following the massage session.

Remember to drink planty of water throughout the day following a massage to cleanse your system.

Are There Instances When Massage Is Not An Appropriate Treatment?

Please ask your therapist about conditions that may require rescheduling your massage. Some of these conditions include:

  • Abnormal Body Temperature
  • Acute Infectious Disease
  • Inflammation
  • Broken Bones
  • Osteoporosis (depends on degree)
  • Cancer (depending on type, stage, etc.)
  • Varicose Veins
  • Hight Blood Pressure (in some cases)
  • Intoxication
